Mimosa - A Useful Shrub

Mimosa, also known as Jurema or Tenuiflora is a tree native to Central and South America. This plant is a part of the faboceae family which has more than 17,000 species of plants. This plant is wildly grows in Belize, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Venezuela, etc. The leaves of this plant are approximately 2 inches in length, the white fragrant flowers grow up to 6cms long and the height of tree is around 14 feet. It has been in use from a very long time.

According to the Brazilian history the jurema was used in the very popular ceremony named Vinho da Jurema for preparation of drinks. But Researchers thought that the shrub will be of no use in the coming time. But that's has proven to be wrong, as these plants are widely used in making of medicines from the past many years. It is considered as a very good source of fuel wood and works very well for making posts. The outer sheath of the tree is widely used as a natural dye and in leather production. It is also coming in use of making fences, furniture and houses.
